Looking down into a street market, Phnom Penh 2014

Over the Christmas break in 2014 through New Year's 2015 we visited Cambodia.  It was quite the visit.  My first time in that part of the world and a chance to see the sights and people.

In Phnom Penh we stayed in the central city next to this market. The streets there are barely labled.. we did some good wandering but I'm sure glad I had my phone with me.

My mom had come with us on the trip and was enamoured with a large stone looks-like-a-buddha-but-was-probably-someone-else. She got a quote to ship it back to Canada but wimped out at the thought of having to figure out how to get it from Vancouver back home since they'd only ship it to her nearest port.  We bought a stylized bronze bust of, I think, Sihanouk. It sits on the mantle still.

Later, we did a tour at a collective group making silk.  My first time seeing both the cocoons of the silk worms and the large looms used to make such beautiful fabric.
