After a couple years of pain and water leaking into the kitchen ceiling we ripped it all out. New bathroom is a long time in the making since we’re doing most of the work ourselves. Plumbers did the hard work of course (and oof. “What could a plumber cost?” I asked myself) but it’s coming along. As of November we have subfloor, plumbing, electrical, a bathtub, and drywall up. It’s coming along. 

I ordered a “bikepacking” tent. It’s from Big Agnes and despite being a bit heavy compared to some alternatives it was a good price and will fit perfectly on my bike. Looking forward to trying it out next year and it should be a good option to lower the weight of our canoeing kit. 

Bear and I made it out to watch the eclipse.  Some amazing friends took us with them to a little conservation area just east of Cornwall, ON.  What a day!

In classic Twitter fashion, the irony is that it now seems to be in decline not from doing too little but from doing too much. It turns out the way to overcome Olson’s group inertia is to run in swinging a machete, cutting wires, firing people, unplugging computers, flipping switches, tweaking parameters, anything to upset an ecosystem hanging on by a delicate balance. It was, if nothing else, a fascinating natural experiment in how to nudge a network out of longstanding homeostasis.

Finally got the new tent setup for the first time and wow is it huge.

I figured we should set it up as a test so we know how to do it and make sure all the bits were there.  It's fantastic. Like a house. There's a 4 person sleeping room and then a huge lounge which will be rain and bug free.  Great work Snow Peak!
